This paper is an attempt at providing practical guidelines to make use of the errors committed by students to correct them. The first part of this paper tries to clarify some slight differences that exist among ‘mistakes’, ‘lapses’ and ‘errors’. The second part of this paper tries to provide an operational guide for making errors with special reference to short sentences and paragraphs. This part includes five charts: Chart one deals with providing easy error correction symbols. Chart two makes a practical application of these error correction symbols in to an actual situation. Chart three is again an application sheet where how errors can be marked in four different ways is shown. The fourth chart deals chart with how error correction symbols are applied to a paragraph; also with reference to the four different ways of making errors. The final chart is a utility sheet. It shows how this type of error charting is useful to both students and teachers. Finally the paper concludes with teaching implication of correcting errors of students using the above given formats.
