Innovations in Classroom Teaching-Using Audio-Visual Mass Medium (of Television Serials / Cartoons and Films) as a tool to improve Communicative English

A successful communicator in today’s international, multi-cultural and multi-lingual environment needs to cultivate the ability to speak and write good English. Not only is an employee expected to talk well, but also to communicate his / her ideas in acceptable manner, to negotiate, to argue, to express an opinion, to present, to facilitate – a multitasking role that calls for presence of mind and good communication skills. But most of today’s would like to watch television specifically serials and films rather than read the paper, magazine or book! The trick is not to fight the trend of a popular mass medium but to turn it into a resource. A teacher of English can use these programmes Shown on television to introduce activities to improve Communicative English, in High School and Higher Secondary classrooms.
